How to convert a bra into a mastectomy bra in 5 minutes

Why I make my own:
I am a small size, and I don’t like most of the styles of mastectomy bras, and I can hardly even find any.

What you need:

A bra
Buy one that has cups large enough to cover the fake breast.
Try it on to make sure the fake breast fits in on all sides, and that the neckline of the bra fits close against your skin, and doesn’t gape.
I like a wide gusset. (That’s the part that connects the two cups)
I like underwire for shape, and logistics.  My favs are elita underwire and new fav, warners lace charmers 2512.  I don’t like molded cups because I find they gape.

Fabric
I use old tee shirts.  I like nice soft thin fabric.

Sewing Machine
I use a sewing machine.  But you can do this by hand…it will take a bit longer

Steps:

  1. Cut out a piece of fabric larger then the cup
  2. Place the fabric under the bra
  3. Sew from the outside of the bra
  4. Sew along the edge of the bra,  from the strap to the centre
  5. Then from the centre, along the bottom,
  6. And then from the strap, along the armpit edge, to the band
  7. Carefully, cut off the excess fabric, leaving a flap at the opening
